Thoughts from the Week: 12/30/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

If a believer in Jesus the Christ is not growing in the Spirit of Jesus, then they are living in the flesh.

“And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:1

If a believer’s life is exhibiting the fruits of the flesh, then they are not walking in the Spirit.

“for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men?” 1 Corinthians 3:3

There is no boasting since everything is received from Jesus.

“For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

The church of Jesus the Christ is to be holy and in love and mercy repenting from sin within its fellowship.

“But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.” 1 Corinthians 5:11-13

A believer in Jesus the Christ is no longer identified by their sin but by Christ’s indwelling Spirit.

“Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11

The great mystery of the Christian life is a believer’s oneness with Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

“But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 1 Corinthians 6:17
