The Uniqueness of Christianity

With the beginning of a new year, it’s the perfect time for us to revisit the uniqueness of our faith.

There are a lot of religions in the world.  These belief systems are often involve philosophies and teachings in which a person strives to change and to become a better person.

This is not so in Christianity.  Yes, Jesus’ disciples are to follow His teachings, but these teachings are rooted in us abiding in Him and He in us.  It is a relationship with a personal God.  It is a relationship with the one true God, the creator of the universe and every living creature in it.

The God of the Bible is a person and therefore a personable God.  He has being, existence, and a will.  He has characteristics which give Him personality.  He is love, life, joy, peace, righteousness, just, holy, good, kind, patient, faithful, gentle and has complete control of His nature and character.  God is personally involved in His creation, especially in the lives of men and women who were created in His likeness.

“Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them. And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power, driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.” Deuteronomy 4:37

This God of the Bible avails His presence to those who in faith believe in Him and obey Him.  By faith a person receives Jesus as their Savior from the punishment for the sins they have committed, sins of disbelief which lead to sins of disobedience.

Jesus’ death on the cross was our death for sin as He became our sin Himself.  By faith a born-again believer receives the Spirit of Jesus into their life to abide there forever.  Wherever a believer goes, the Spirit of Jesus is present.  There is no place a believer can go to get away from the Spirit of Jesus.  He goes where we go, or to be more correct, we go where He goes.

“And He said, ‘My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.’ Then he said to Him, ‘If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.’” Exodus 33:14-15

God’s omnipresence in a believer’s life assures each of them of His attentiveness to the circumstances of their life.  He is aware of, He cares for, and He helps in each situation of life.  His grace and glory are poured out on each believer.

“O Lord God of hosts, restore us; cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.” Psalm 80:19

The God of the Bible is personally involved, always present, and deeply interested in the life of each person who has received His Spirit by trusting in Jesus Christ, His Son.

May we walk with Him even more closely and enjoy His presence even more deeply in 2023.
