Thoughts from the Week: 9/16/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

The worship of the Lord should not be a burden or a weariness to our souls.

“You also say, ‘See, how tiresome it is!’ And you view it as trivial,’ says the Lord of armies, ‘and you bring what was taken by robbery and what is lame or sick; so you bring the offering! Should I accept it from your hand?’ says the Lord.” Malachi 1:13

Humble integrity should mark ministry for the the Lord.

“For the lips of a priest should maintain knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of armies.” Malachi 2:7

Obedience is expected when the Lord speaks.

“And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,” Matthew 1:24

Belief spoken is sometimes ridiculed by unbelief.

“When Jesus came into the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder, He said, ‘Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.’ And they began laughing at Him.” Matthew 9:24

The natural person finds it hard to believe in unnatural and unscientific events.

“Now after that, He appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking along on their way to the country.  And they went away and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them, either.” Mark 16:12-13

Just as we cannot rest in church traditions, neither can we rest in our church heritage.

“Therefore produce fruits that are consistent with repentance, and do not start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children for Abraham.” Luke 3:8

Jesus often left opportunities to minister to people in order to pray.

“But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.” Luke 5:15-16
