Thoughts from the Week: 2/25/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

A Spirit-filled person is always asking to know the Lord’s mind and heart on a matter.

“But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, ‘Give us a king to judge us.’ And Samuel prayed to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 8:6

Only Jesus can satisfy one’s soul.

"And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty.” 1 Samuel 12:21

When we dwell humbly with the Lord, then He prospers our life.

“And David had success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him.” 1 Samuel 18:14

Pride breeds suspicion rooted in fear.

”And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, ‘They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?’  And Saul eyed David from that day on.” 1 Samuel 18:8-9

We are not to covet the best of this world forsaking the best of God.

“But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them.  All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction.” 1 Samuel 15:9

A great concern of God is a person’s heart.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him.  For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’” 1 Samuel 16:7

The love of the Lord is not based on one’s life, but on His Name.

“For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name's sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself.” 1 Samuel 12:22
