Thoughts from the Week: 10/22/21

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

Earthly treasures are elusive while heavenly treasures are eternally secure.

“Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days.” - James 5:3 (ESV)

Jesus’ appearing is worth a believer’s patient endurance.

"You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” - James 5:8 (ESV)

The world is alien to a believer in Jesus and therefore a believer in Jesus is alien to the world.

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.” - 1 Peter 1:1-2 (ESV)

A believer’s mind is to always anticipate and be prepared for spiritual attacks.

"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” - 1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)

A believer’s flesh wars against Jesus’ Spirit.

“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” - 1 Peter 2:11 (ESV)

Jesus did not die to free me for sin, but from sin.

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” - 1 Peter 2:16 (ESV)

If Jesus is exalted as Lord in my heart, then He will be exalted as Lord in my life.

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.” - 1 Peter 3:15-16 (ESV)
