The Unified Church
There is a uniqueness to the assembling together of the Body of Christ. The family reunion we talked about last week was a peculiar thing. As members of the family of Yahweh we are all equal in His sight. Our pedigree does not matter, neither our education, finances, abilities, or social standing. Since the family of Yahweh is a spiritual unit bound by the Holy Spirit, then we are all united together as we are individually and corporately conformed into the image of Jesus. There is one family with many members.
1 Corinthians 12:13-14
“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.”
Each member of this heavenly family is placed there by Yahweh Himself, through our faith in Jesus the Christ, for His pleasure. Each family member is pleasing to the Father as the family unit together finds His pleasure.
1 Corinthians 12:18
“But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.”
Every member of the Body of Christ has value and importance. We cannot look down on one another. We cannot consider others who are in the family any less than ourselves. Each member has equal standing before the Father.
1 Corinthians 12:19-22
“If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,”
The assembly of Yahweh’s family is not to be divided. We are to be united by the one Holy Spirit who indwells us. We are to be united in community, concern, and care for one another. What happens to one member affects the whole of the Body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:25-26
“that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”
As born-again believers in Jesus the Christ we are joined together by His Spirit. As members of Yahweh’s family, we are to not only live in harmony with one another, but also in service as we consider others more important than ourselves. Let us enjoy the family, enjoy the assembly, enjoy the church.
