Thoughts from the Week: 6/2/23

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

Faith in Jesus is rooted in faith in the Bible.

“Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. For by it the people of old gained approval.” Hebrews 11:1-2

A life lived by faith in Jesus is a life lived with a good testimony.

“For by it the people of old gained approval.” Hebrews 11:2

Jesus bears witness of our life of faith as our testimony lives on after death.

“By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he was attested to be righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.”  Hebrews 11:4

Jesus is the pacesetter for my life of faith.

“Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

Discipline from Jesus is for the purpose of Holiness.

“For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.” Hebrews 12:10

Salvation without sanctification is useless.

“Pursue peace with all people, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14

The life of a born-again believer is a life of faith for others to imitate.

“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their way of life, imitate their faith.” Hebrews 13:7
