Thoughts from the Week: 12/2/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

Peace with God is right standing with God.
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” Romans 5:1

Troubles can be beneficial in that a believer’s hope in Jesus abounds as their faith is strengthened.
"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

Repentance is the power to rule and control our flesh.
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” Romans 6:12-13

Faith in Jesus is death with Jesus and freedom from the power, penalty, and presence of sin.
"For one who has died has been set free from sin.” Romans 6:7

Without the law of God there is no knowledge or acknowledgement of sin.
“What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” Romans 7:7

Having the mind of Christ is having a mind that is focused and dwells on spiritual things.
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5
