Thoughts from the Week: 9/2/22
Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!
Be blessed this week,
Pastor Hugh
Brokenness over sin is evidence of a humble, repentant heart.
“And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.” Jonah 3:5
By knowing and understanding God we can anticipate His actions and reactions.
“And he prayed to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that You are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.’” Jonah 4:2
Being instep with the Lord is to be compassionate and show mercy on those who are lost in sin.
“And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” Jonah 4:11
The Lord will dig deep to uncover the root of our sin.
“Therefore I will make Samaria a heap in the open country, a place for planting vineyards, and I will pour down her stones into the valley and uncover her foundations.” Micah 1:6
The Lord will not respond to the cry of an unrepentant heart.
“Then they will cry to the Lord, but He will not answer them; He will hide His face from them at that time, because they have made their deeds evil.” Micah 3:4
Those who trust the Lord experience His goodness.
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him.” Nahum 1:7
There are times when the still quietness of God seems like He does not hear nor care when I cry out to Him.
“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and You will not hear? Or cry to You ‘Violence!’ and You will not save? Habakkuk 1:2
