Thoughts from the Week: 1/14/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

Sometimes affliction is experienced among God’s people right before He delivers them.

“Then Moses turned to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord, why have You done evil to this people? Why did You ever send me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people, and You have not delivered Your people at all.’” Exodus 5:22-23

The favor of God that He shows His people is distinct and evident.

"But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.   Thus I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall happen.” Exodus 8:22-23

The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of our deliverance from sin by faith in the blood of Jesus.

“This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.” Exodus 12:14

When disaster is visibly evident and fear grips the heart, we should call boldly upon the Lord.

”When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord.’” Exodus 14:10

The Lord’s Day is a day He sets aside for rest, refreshing, and worship.

“Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.” Exodus 23:12

Spiritual leaders revere God, love truth, and deplore evil.

“Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.” Exodus 18:21

The fear of God curbs one’s sin but the blood of Jesus removes it.

“Moses said to the people, ‘Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of Him may be before you, that you may not sin.’” Exodus 20:20
