The Greatest Blessing of All Time

G.O.A.T. is an acronym for greatest of all time.  When used it is usually talking about someone who when compared with others are considered the greatest in their field.  It might be sports, entertainment, cooking, etc.  We are talking about the best of the best so to speak.  But in Zephaniah chapter one we see a list of greatest events in which only one is good while the others are not a wise choice at all.

Verse six presents us with the greatest mistake of all time.  Yahweh reveals Himself as our Creator, therefore we are His by default.  But within His sovereignty He has placed in humans a free will to accept or reject, believe or disbelieve Him.  What a mistake for people to try and unfriend their Creator.

Because of our attempts to unfriend Yahweh we are faced with the greatest catastrophe of all time.  In verses one through five we are presented with Yahweh’s response to self-worship by the people whom He created.  His anger toward misappropriated reverence is felt by every living creature on the earth.

When we unfriend our Creator and focus our lives on ourselves then we become obsessed with the things of this world which are gone as fast as we can obtain them.  Here in verse thirteen, we find ourselves caught in the greatest waste of all time.  We give our lives to things which will one day perish and not to the things which will endure for all time.

The following verses, fourteen through eighteen, reveal to us that Yahweh will hold us accountable for our lives and unfriending Him and turning to ourselves.  This is the greatest assurance of all time.  There will be a day of reckoning.  Pay day will come and the price is an eternity separated from our Creator.

But lost in our pride and self we believe the lie that none of this is true.  We live in a false world of deception.  The greatest deception of all time is found in verse twelve.  It is the belief that Yahweh will not bring upon us the greatest catastrophe of all time.  We believe that since Yahweh has not done anything so far, that He will not do anything.  It’s that old saying, ‘so far so good’.

But our Creator is not going to let us go so easily.  He created us and desires for us to be with Him and share in His life.  So, we find in verses seven through eleven that He has devised the greatest blessing of all time.  Yahweh has provided a way for all our deception and sin to be forgiven through faith in Jesus the Christ.  All He asks us to do is to repent and believe.  The love our Creator has for each of us.

This leaves each person with a decision to make.  To believe in his creator’s love and forgiveness, or to disbelieve and continue in a life of deception and sin.  Which will it be, eternal life or eternal death?  The decision is ours.  We must trust in Jesus or be guilty of the greatest mistake of all time, unfriending our Creator.
