Thoughts from the Week: 8/25/23

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

Matthew 22:37-40 - “And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’”

This week I was asked what the purpose of life is.  The person asking the question was a believer in Jesus the Christ.  Many answers would be correct if they rest on a person’s relationship with Jesus.  The person asking the question proposed that the purpose in life was to love Jesus and to love others.  Here we have the first and second of all of God’s commandments in scripture.  With some thought I shared that each person is seeking to be fulfilled and satisfied in life.  Jesus was the only one who can really satisfy the deep longings of a person’s soul.  Knowing Jesus, loving Jesus fulfills all our needs and desires in life.  The peace a believer has with God, the love they experience, the goodness they receive is far beyond anything the world has to offer.  So we should believe in Jesus, love Jesus and live with Him, thus having all we need in life.  Be satisfied with Him and be richly blessed.

Psalm 90:14 – “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
