Thoughts from the Week: 3/18/22

Each Friday, I like to share some thoughts, learnings, and reflections from my quiet times during the week. I hope they’re encouraging and helpful!

Be blessed this week,

Pastor Hugh

The Lord provides the strength to endure lean times.

“Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” 1 Kings 19:18

Self broods when it does not get its way.

“And Ahab went into his house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him, for he had said, ‘I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.’ And he lay down on his bed and turned away his face and would eat no food.” 1 Kings 21:4

Self seeks its own wellbeing not the truth.

“And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, ‘There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil.’ And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.’” 1 Kings 22:8

The reward for my greed is a lingering unpleasantness.

“’Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.’ So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.” 2 Kings 5:27

God does not tell me everything.

“And when she came to the mountain to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came to push her away. But the man of God said, ‘Leave her alone, for she is in bitter distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me and has not told me.’” 2 Kings 4:27

For a born-again believer death is but a doorway to life.

“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:7-8 [KJV]

My zeal for the Lord is evidenced by my obedience to Him.

“And he said, ‘Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.’ So he had him ride in his chariot,” 2 Kings 10:16
